Teri does not have swine flu, nor did she at any time suspect that she did, Brad Cafarelli said. "She is sick and has laryngitis."Desperate Housewives star Teri Hatcher is under the weather, her rep told TVGuide.com, knocking down reports that the 44-year-old actress had swine flu.Hatcher's illness won't affect the ABC series' shooting schedule. "[She] has already finished her work for the week and is not scheduled to work again until next week," Cafarelli said.Scientists at the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that up to 5.7 million Americans were infected with swine flu from mid-April through July 23. The figures, reported Thursday, are the CDC's most specific calculation about the pandemic to date.

A longer version of the dance was performed by the drill team during halftime at Friday's football game.A classic Halloween-themed dance was performed by more than 100 Pioneer High School students Friday at the campus quad.Members of the school's drill team, all-male dance team, Associated Student Body and anyone else who felt the music pulled together at noon to perform Michael Jackson's "Thriller" dance in unison. It was a precursor to the school's annual Halloween costume contest."There were some groups doing the dance across the country to get into the record books," said Harry Yessian, assistant principal of business and activities. "We didn't want to do that, but thought it would be fun for Halloween."Although the dance lasted just a minute and a half, the enthusiasm was high.

According to Newkerala, Carrey wants people to take a trip into his eccentric subconscious.
For all of you who thought The Truman Show was just another movie to Jim Carrey think again. The actor is taking a cue from the voyeuristic feature, and is allowing fans to get a peek into his life. Carrey has launched a website that will allow you to see more of him than you ever bargained for. Movie Jim Carrey is great, but real Jim Carrey is down right insane.‘It’s kind of a psychedelic landscape of my brain laid out and I think you’ll have fun. They (fans) get to see everything that’s going on in my universe and done in a way that I think you’ll have fun negotiating.’ His official website JimCarrey.com is already online and ready for you to enter. It gives updates on the actor’s career, as well as his personal interests. I have to admit it’s pretty scary. There’s a photo of him on the welcome page that screams extreme airbrushing and he almost looks like a cartoon villain. Maybe that’s the fun part of this whole thing? Keeping people off balance. This concept is interesting to me because it sounds like a cyber version of reality TV, and you know how that’s frowned upon by A-list actors. As a fan of Carrey, this might be the closest some people will ever get to the man, but are you intrigued or freaked out?

Dennis Hopper 73-year-old actor and artist is being treated through a "special program" at the University of Southern California, Sam Maydew said Thursday.Dennis Hopper has been diagnosed with prostate cancer and is canceling all travel plans to focus on treatment, his manager says.Hopper was forced to cancel his appearance at an exhibition of his artwork and photography at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image in Melbourne. Called "Dennis Hopper and the New Hollywood," the show celebrates "the work and life of an extraordinary filmmaker, artist and key figure in the evolution of America's cultural scene from the 1950s to today."Hopper was hospitalized in New York earlier this month and treated for dehydration.
The "Easy Rider" star recently finished shooting the second season of "Crash," a TV version of the Oscar-winning 2004 film. He plays maniacal music producer Ben Cendars on the series, which airs on the Starz network. Hopper also has several film projects in the works.

Triathlon gold medalist Simon Whitfield and speedskating champion Catriona Le May Doan joined to light a torch for the Vancouver Games on Friday, kicking off the longest domestic torch relay in Olympic history.
Whitfield, who won gold at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and silver at the 2008 Beijing Games, resides in Victoria, where the relay started. Le May Doan is the only Canadian to successfully defend an individual Olympic title, having won gold at Nagano and Salt Lake City.Over 106 days, the torch will stop in every Canadian province and territory leading to the lighting of the cauldron at BC Place. The games will be held from Feb. 12-28 in Vancouver and Whistler. The flame was handed off to aboriginal native Canadians, who brought it across Victoria's inner harbor in their traditional canoes. Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and British Columbia Premier Gordon Campbell made short speeches. The crowd later observed a moment of silence for the late Jack Poole, who played a large role in bringing the Olympics to Vancouver. Poole died last week following a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer.Poole spearheaded the city's bid for the Olympics, working for a decade to bring the games to British Columbia. He was also chairman of the Vancouver Olympic organizing committee's board of directors.

Rock and Roll Hall

The event: Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, Stevie Wonder, Simon & Garfunkel, Crosby, Stills & Nash and numerous guests kicked off a two-night celebration, playing both their own songs and the music that inspired them.
Envious insider: "I'm a fan — I don't know what to say to half these guys," said Tom Hanks backstage before the show. His production company is working with HBO, which is filming the concerts to air Nov. 29 as a four-hour special. "I grew up with the hi-fi on in the front room, the (Beatles') White Album on — everything that's going on tonight is the soundtrack of our lives."
Sizzling warm-up: As lights dimmed, video clips played on a curved screen above the stage, showing Rock Hall induction speeches and all-star jams of dozens of stars.
Banner night: The acts performed under a wood-framed arch adorned with images of Fats Domino, Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Little Richard, the Everly Brothers, Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis.
Just dropped in: Bonnie Raitt, the first of the night's stream of guests, got strong vocal support from Crosby and Nash as she and her guitar took the lead on an aching Love Has No Pride. The Allman Brothers got a nice shout-out as the four sang a funk-blues version of Midnight Rider.
Trading off: Sting walked onstage playing bass guitar during Higher Ground, then traded helium-voiced lead vocals with Stevie on Roxanne, with the two sounding surprisingly alike. 2009 inductee Jeff Beck made a surprise appearance on Superstition and dropped in a scintillating heavy-metal guitar solo to close the powerhouse set.
Before anyone had to run for buses and subways, the band rolled out a post-1 a.m. Born to Run, with Joel taking a turn on the sacred text. Springsteen walked to the lip of the stage, let fans pound his guitar, then sent 19,500 tramps like him out into the New York night. Almost. All his guests came back on for a loving (Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher tribute to Jackie Wilson. Wave after wave of pure soul joy, carried out for countless choruses, carried it home.

New York Yankees

New York Yankees pitcher AJ Burnett has admitted that Thursday's World Series clash with Philadelphia Phillies was "the biggest game I've ever thrown in" as he helped inspire his team to a 3-1 win to level the best-of-seven contest 1-1 at Yankee Stadium. The four top hitters for the Phillies went 0-for-10 against Burnett, with Ryan Howard striking out three times.Mark Teixeira and Hideki Matsui then homered for the Yankees, who overcame a 1-0 second-innings deficit for the crucial victory as the series shifts to Philadelphia over the next three games, starting on Saturday."I wanted to come out and attack, feed off the crowd and the energy," said Burnett. "I've done a good job of being calm in situations but I wanted to come out with some fire."I knew it was a big game, the biggest I've ever thrown in for this team."I wanted to set the tone early, be very aggressive. I threw a lot of first-pitch strikes. It made a big difference. I went out with confidence and the game just rolled by."Philadelphia manager Charlie Manuel hailed the performance of Burnett. He said: "Burnett was good. He was very aggressive with his fastball and his slider was off the chart. He pitched a heck of a game."Teixiera, mired in a .186 play-off batting slump, hit a solo homer off Pedro Martinez in the fourth innings to pull New York level and Japan's Matsui struck a sixth-innings homer to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead."It was pretty special, this one," Teixiera said. "We hadn't done anything against them. It put a little bit of a crack in their armour. They had pitched so well. And Matsui's home run was great for our confidence."It was a must-win for us. If we went in there 0-2 it would have been a tough road for us."

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Friday hailed as "historic" an agreement seeking to end four months of political crisis in Honduras and pave the way to presidential elections. She spoke shortly after Honduras's de facto leader Roberto Micheletti announced that he had agreed to reinstate President Manuel Zelaya, who was ousted in a military-led coup in June.Pending approval from lawmakers, the deal signed by Micheletti would return Zelaya to the presidency and allow the formation of a coalition government ahead of a planned presidential election on November 29.Clinton also extended congratulations to Costa Rican President Oscar Arias, the Organization of American States (OAS), Brazil and Mexico for their mediating roles, and highlighted the shuttle diplomacy of US envoys.Negotiators for Zelaya and Micheletti returned to the table on Thursday, as security forces again used batons and tear gas against pro-Zelaya protesters. The United States, European Union and International Monetary Fund applied aid freezes to impoverished Honduras after the June 28 coup. The United Nations and the OAS have said they will not monitor next month's polls until normality is restored.

A French judge ordered former President Jacques Chirac to stand trial on embezzlement charges predating his presidency — a case that could mark the first time a former leader of modern France is forced to defend himself in court.A prosecutor can still appeal the judge's decision to try Chirac for embezzlement and breach of trust in a corruption case dating back to his tenure as mayor of Paris, and if so, the ensuing judicial deliberations could last months.Still, the judge's bold pursuit of Chirac, who lost his presidential immunity when his 12-year presidency ended in 2007, stunned many observers. Judges chased Chirac unsuccessfully in various corruption scandals for years, and prosecutors had requested that this particular case be dropped. Many French politicians fretted openly Friday about how the case would affect France's reputation abroad. It's just one of several current scandals alleging dirty dealings in the conservative political establishment that Chirac headed for years. One of Chirac's former prime ministers, Dominique de Villepin, is on trial, accused of orchestrating a smear campaign against Chirac's successor, Nicolas Sarkozy. Villepin denies the charges.Judges like Simeoni have extraordinary powers — they not only investigate suspects but also decide whether to charge and put them on trial — but the government is preparing to cut their functions drastically. Magistrates' unions and legal scholars questioned whether it would have been possible to take the Chirac case this far without the existing system. The nine others also sent to trial with Chirac include Michel Roussin, a chief of staff to Chirac at city hall, accused of complicity in breach of trust, the official said. Among those ordered to stand trial on suspicion of having benefited from the phony jobs scheme is Jean de Gaulle, a grandson of former President Charles de Gaulle.Since the Fifth Republic was founded in 1958, no former French president has appeared in court.Marshal Philippe Petain, who headed the 1940-1944 collaborationist Vichy regime, was found guilty of treason and imprisoned on an island off the Atlantic coast until his death in 1951.

There's a lovely little story buried in the New York Times today about an Andy Warhol self-portrait that Sotheby's will auction on November 11th.
The piece belongs to Cathy Naso, who as a high school senior in 1965 found her way to the Factory hoping to write an essay for French class. She was fascinated with the place, and ended up becoming an unpaid receptionist there for the next 2 years.
Not only did that experience gice this "wide-eyed girl from Brooklyn" a bird's eye view of the 60's, Warhol gave her the self-portrait in lieu of paying her. She kept it in a closet for decades, fearing it would be stolen or damaged. It's now worth more than $1 million.

Here's a list of some costumes that most people can put together using items they already have on hand. Or if there's an item you need that you don't already own, you can probably borrow it from a friend or pick it up with a quick trip to the thrift store.Just about everyone owns a Hawaiian shirt. Add some Bermuda shorts, a visor, a camera (or two) around your neck, and sandals on your feet (socks optional). For a funny effect, stuff the butt of your pants for that extra-dorky look. Find or make some brochures and tickets to stuff in your pockets and you're good to go!Wear your funkiest colors. Girls: layer two or three skirts on top of each other, with a peasant blouse and lots of jewelry. Guys: wear loose pants tucked into boots, with a shirt unbuttoned to reveal several gold necklaces (plus a vest if you have one). Wear a scarf around your head and another around your waist, and boots on your feet (or just go barefoot).Start with a bandana around your head. Boots are very helpful but you can make boot tops by wrapping dark fabric around your lower leg flapped over at the top. Women--wear a skirt with a ragged bottom. Men--either tuck some loose pants into your boots, or cut the bottom into a ragged edge. Wear a loose shirt unbuttoned at the top, with a vest (it's easy to make a vest by cutting up an old shirt). Wrap a piece of fabric around your waist for a belt.Easiest ever. Just wear your clothes a size too small, with your shirt buttoned all the way up, and pants pulled up too high, over white socks and Grandpa shoes. Add a pocket protector, fake zits, and gel in your hair to make it look extra-geeky.

Unless you were Jimmy Rollins, you had to believe that this World Series was going to be a long one, as closely matched as are the Yankees and Phillies. So while Philadelphia lost Game 2, 3-1, to a stellar pitching effort by Yankees starter A.J. Burnett, they scored a small triumph that may pay dividends as the series is extended: they chipped away at the seemingly indestructible nature of Mariano Rivera.New York manager Joe Girardi made the wise move to put a 3-1 lead into the hands of Rivera for the final six outs. As Rivera said after Game 2

Game 2 will not go into the Charlie Manuel highlight reel. It's not that he made poor decisions, but that his key decisions blew up, especially two of them. The first move was leaving Pedro Martinez in the game in the seventh inning, down 2-1. You know you're seeing Rivera the next inning, so keeping the deficit at one is paramount. Manuel sent Martinez back for the seventh with 99 pitches. It wasn't a terrible move, but Martinez should have been batter-to-batter at that point, especially because he revealed after the game that he has been weakened by flu-like symptoms recently, losing sleep and his appetite.
The second key move that didn't work for Manuel was not starting his runners with a full count on Chase Utley in the eighth inning. Rollins was at second and Shane Victorino was at first. Rivera was pitching with one out.
The Phillies have some major trouble at the bottom of their batting order. Pedro Feliz and, to a lesser extent, Carlos Ruiz are providing Yankee pitchers with automatic bailout innings, like National League baseball circa 1968, because of the poor quality of their at-bats. Feliz has made eight outs in seven plate appearances on just 19 pitches. Ruiz, though he does have two doubles, has made five outs while seeing only 21 pitches in his seven trips to the plate. For those of you scoring at home, that's 13 outs in 14 plate appearances while seeing just 40 pitches. It's the equivalent of a coffee break for pitchers.
Those were some funky swings Alex Rodriguez took in Games 1 and 2 in the World Series, looking nothing like the compact, balanced strokes he took in the ALDS and ALCS. His swing was at times lengthened and at times became very defensive, more of swatting for the ball or feeling for it than taking a quick path to it. It's almost as if he's a shooter in basketball whose stroke gets tighter with each miss; he needs something to go down to restore confidence.

The New York Yankees leveled the World Series at one game each as A.J. Burnett out dueled old Yankees nemesis Pedro Martinez in a 3-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday.Mark Teixeira and Hideki Matsui homered for the Yankees, who overcame a 1-0 second-inning deficit for the victory as the best-of-seven series shifts to Philadelphia for the next three games starting on Saturday. The hard-throwing Burnett gave up four hits in seven innings and struck out nine while walking two.Martinez, a familiar foe to New York in seven seasons with the Boston Red Sox, went six plus innings and was charged with three runs on six hits and struck out eight.Philadelphia manager Charlie Manuel admired the performances of both pitchers."Burnett was good. He was very aggressive with his fastball and his slider was off the chart. He pitched a heck of a game," Manuel told reporters."Pedro did a tremendous job, changing speeds, but he got hurt by the long ball from left-handed hitters."Philadelphia scored in the second when Raul Ibanez blooped a two-out double down the left-field line and came home when third baseman Alex Rodriguez failed to corral a smash off the bat of designated hitter Matt Stairs.Teixeira, who had been slumping with a .186 postseason average, blasted a 1-0 pitch into the Yankees bullpen in right-center to tie it 1-1.Two innings later Matsui put the Yankees in front by pulling a soft, 73 mph curve into the lower deck in right.New York added another run in the seventh after Jerry Hairston Jr and Melky Cabrera opened the inning with singles.Park Chan-ho relieved Martinez and yielded a single to center by pinch-hitter Jorge Posada that scored pinch-runner Brett Gardner.Closer Mariano Rivera pitched the last two innings for the save, escaping trouble in the eighth by getting Chase Utley to rap into a double play turned by Robinson Cano and Derek Jeter.Andy Pettitte, who has a record 16 career postseason wins, starts Saturday for the Yankees against fellow left-hander Cole Hamels, last year's World Series MVP for the Phillies.

Pakistan's cricket chief Ijaz Butt left for India on Wednesday to hold talks with his counterparts, apparently to revive bilateral ties snapped a year ago following the Mumbai terror attacks. The Indian team refused to play a tour against Pakistan early this year amid heightened tension between Islamabad and New Delhi after the Mumbai attacks last year blamed on Pakistan-based militants which killed 166 people. The International Cricket Council (ICC) had to re-draft the Future Tour Programme (FTP) after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) complained of being marginalised in the post-2012 schedule, having no series with India. The FTP, introduced in 2006, aims to provide a structured schedule of cricket for the 10 member countries.PCB chairman Butt refused to disclose the agenda of his tour.PCB chairman Butt refused to disclose the agenda of his tour."I am going to India, but at this point of time I am not going to make any comment and once things mature only then will I be able to speak," said Butt, whose tour is widely reported as an attempt to revive ties.Butt last month said that the new FTP had Tests, one-dayers and Twenty20 matches with India."Not only Pakistan and India, but the ICC is also making efforts to revive bilateral ties between the two countries as it is imperative that we play against each other in the FTP and we will discuss the option of neutral venues," Butt said.PCB chief operating officer Wasim Bari also reportedly hinted India was willing to talk on playing Pakistan at neutral venues.Three months after India cancelled its tour, international cricket was dealt a near-fatal blow when the Sri Lankan team bus was attacked in Lahore. The March 3 attacks, which killed eight people besides injuring seven Sri Lankan players and an official, ended any hopes of Pakistan staging top level cricket in the foreseeable future. The ICC was forced to strip Pakistan of its share of 2011 World Cup matches.Even before the attacks foreign teams had refused to tour Pakistan because of security fears. In the last 12 months, Pakistan played one-dayers against the West Indies and Australia in the United Arab Emirates. Pakistan will also play New Zealand in a limited over series in the UAE next month.Pakistan were forced to move their home Test series to New Zealand late in November and will play two Tests against Australia in England next year.
