Lee DeWyze > Crystal Bowersox > Casey James
On their last show before next week's finale, the three remaining American Idol contestants sang two songs each -- one they picked, one the judges picked for them.In their last American Idol performance before the final, the contestants each call their own tune — and sing tunes chosen by the judges. Who will go home with the bronze medal, and who will advance to the final showdown? So Crystal Bowersox finally covered Melissa Etheridge and revealed that, of the final three contestants on this season of “Idol” – the final two, really, since it’s unlikely she won’t make it to the finale – she’s the one most in touch with the range and texture of her voice. Also, somewhat surprisingly, she’s the one with the firmest grip on popular taste – bizarre, given how that at the outset of this season, she seemed like the show’s most anachronistic talent.

Oh, Allison Iraheta. We love that you're so weird.
We have no context for this picture other than the inimitable Allison Iraheta's tweet: "Band in the shoowweeeerrr , band in the CHowerrrr"Band in the shower, indeed. The blonde woman to the left of Allison is her bass player Priscilla Fire, the man in the plaid on the right is guitarist David Immerman, the woman holding Allison's hair is her drummer Valerie Franco and the man to the left is Zoux the keyboard player.

While American Idol is returning to a more familiar format, there will still be several substantial changes when the curtains go up on the show's ninth season -- including the absence of Paula Abdul, the addition of Ellen DeGeneres, and Simon Cowell serving on the judging panel for the final time. American Idol's ninth season will premiere over the course of two consecutive nights with a two-hour broadcast on Tuesday, January 12 and a 75-minute broadcast on Wednesday, January 13 -- with both beginning at 8PM ET/PT.
It will represent the beginning of the end for Cowell, as Fox confirmed yesterday that he will be leaving American Idol after its 2010 season to focus on launching a U.S. version of his British The X Factor reality competition series for the network in Fall 2011.
